Travel By Air
Kathmandu is only one international airport of Nepal.You can fly directly
to Kathmandu from Vienna, Amsterdam, Dubai, Dhaka, Karachi, Abu Dhabi,
Bahrain, Doha, Paro, Lhasa, Singapore, New Delhi, Mumbai, Patna,Calcutta
and Varanasi. Charter flights can also be arranged for large movements.
All flights feature business class and international standard amenities.
Many a time, the Captain offers a guided sightseeing of the Himalaya when
flight over the Nepal's land without extra charge! Airfares are to be
paid in foreign currency by foreign nationals. Only Nepalese and Indian
nationals are permitted to pay in rupees for air passage between Nepal
and India. Departure flight tickets should be reconfirmed three days in
advance to avoid inconveniences by possible flight cancellation or changes
in the flight schedule.
Travel By Road
All visitors entering Nepal by land must use those points:
(1) Kakarbhitta
(2) Birgunj
(3) Bhairahawa (Sunauli)
(4) Nepalgunj
(5) Dhangadi
(6) Mahendra Nagar (Tanakpur)
(7) Kodari (Nepal-China border)
The overland tourists who like to visit by own vehicle must possess international
rules.
VISA and the procedure
All foreigners, (EXCEPT Indian, Chinese and SAARC countries nationals)
are required to have a valid visa to enter Nepal. Visa can be obtained
from Royal Nepalese diplomatic missions (Embassies and consulates) abroad
or can be obtained upon arrival at the airport in Kathmandu. If you are
arriving by land it can be obtained from any immigration offices at the
border points. Visa fee is as following:
a) 60 days Single Entry visa US$ 30 per person
b) 60 days double entry visa US$ 55 per person
c) 60 days triple entry visa US$ 70 per person
d) 60 days multiple entry visa US$ 70 per person
e) Business visa for 5 years Available on the recommendation of Ministry
of Industry and Commerce for businessmen with unlimited entry.
Recent Updates:
01) For a stay of up to 3 days, a visa is gratis.
02) If a person stays in Nepal for 15 days and returns
to Nepal within a year from that date, visa is gratis for the second visit.
Once you are in Nepal and you wish to stay more than 60 days you can extend
the visa by paying extra US$ 50 (in the Nepalese Currency) for 30 days
from the immigration office at Tourist Service Centre, Bhrikuti Mandap,
Exhibition Road, which is opened 10 AM to 5 PM in from Sundays to Thursdays
and 10 AM to 3 PM on Fridays in Summer.
4) Airport Tax
Passengers departing from Airport are required to pay airport tax while
leaving out of Nepal. Airport tax is categorized for two destinations:
A )-International Departure (per person)
01) For flight to India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives
as first stop RS 770
02) Other than above as first stop NRS 1100 per person
B ) Domestic sectors (within Nepal): NRS 165 at each departure at each
airport
5) Currency
Nepalese Currency is called RUPAIYAN (RS in short) and 100 Paisa is =
1 RUPAIYAN.
Current Exchange rate with US$ is 1 US$ = 74.25 According to 21/10/04
(but depends upon the banks and hotels).
6) Time
Nepal is 5 hours and 45 minutes ahead (+) of GMT and 15 minutes ahead
of India. Nepal is less (-) 2 hours and 15 minutes from China.
